DHN
When Deaf Health Network (DHN) was launched in 1998, information was mostly on HIV/AIDS and a listing of HIV/AIDS and Deaf agencies in the United States and Canada. What started as a small side project became a full scale website. Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals asked for information on other health topics such as diabetes and cancer. Health Care professionals requested information on the ADA and how to best serve their Deaf and Hard of Hearing patients. Since the dynamics of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Education included many other topics (Chemical Dependency, Sexual Health, Health Care, etc.), more information that was not entirely related to HIV/AIDS was added. Today, DHN has strives to provide information, materials, and resources related to the Deaf/Hard of Hearing and Health Care communities. DHN also seeks to create a forum for health care and social work professionals to network with other professionals and find information and resources (professional development and/or research).
Gary Wolford
Gary Wolford first became interested in the health field while he worked as an HIV/AIDS educator in Baltimore, Maryland. Individuals with a suppressed immune system tend to confront many health issues. Through this opportunity, Gary Wolford met with many health care professionals and attended many workshops on health care and health education. Currently, Mr. Wolford is no longer a full-time HIV/AIDS educator and can be found giving presentations throughout the United States on "HIV and the Deaf", HIV prevention, and HIV education. Gary Wolford currently works as an American Sign Language interpreter, specializing mostly in medical and social health settings. He also works as a web designer/webmaster for other organizations and establishments.
