Debra Guthmann, Ed.D is currently the Director of Pupil Personnel Services at the California School for the Deaf, Fremont where she oversees all clinical services including:  counseling, assessment and health services.  In addition,  Dr. Guthmann is the Project Director for a long term training grant located at the Minnesota Chemical Dependency Program for Deaf and Hard of  Hearing Individuals(MCDPDHHI), provided through the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services.  These grants focus on the provision of substance abuse and Deafness training opportunities for professionals in the area of Rehabilitation Services.   From 1989-1995, Debra was the Program Director for the MCDPDHHI which is one of the first inpatient programs for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Individuals in the country.   Debra has authored a number of articles and several book chapters focusing on chemical dependency and deafness.  Dr. Guthmann has also been involved with over 60 national and international presentations on related topics.  Dr. Guthmann has been a guest lecturer at numerous post secondary institutions and is currently on faculty at the University of Minnesota and San Francisco State University.

Debra is Past President and the current Vice President of the American Deafness and Rehabilitation Association(ADARA) which is one of the largest organizations for professionals serving Deaf and Hard of Hearing Individuals.  She  also serves on a number of national boards some of which include;  the National Association on Alcohol, Drugs and Disability , the Research and Training Center focusing on Substance Abuse and Disabilities and  San Francisco State University's Rehabilitation Counseling Training program.
